Adam Lallana’s injury is “not too bad”

Adam Lallana continued his excellent start to the season for both club and country in England’s 2-2 friendly draw over Spain. He played a through ball to Jamie Vardy, who was fouled in the area and covered the penalty but was substituted off with an injury after just 25 minutes.

Liverpool fans were holding their collective breaths when they saw Lallana walk straight down the tunnel but initial reports are that the injury isn’t too bad, but he’ll still be assessed at Melwood on Wednesday.

Liverpool have a tough game away to Lallana’s former club Southampton on Saturday and will have been hoping to have the 28-year-old fit and available, especially as Brazilian duo Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho won’t be back in Liverpool until late on Wednesday and there’s not guarantee that the pair will be 100% fit.

If Lallana does miss out, Gini Wijnaldum is the obivous choice to replace him in Liverpool’s midfield.
