Alan Shearer raves about James Milner

Alan Shearer heaped praise on Liverpool’s James Milner after his side beat Manchester City 3-0 at Anfield, according to BBC Football.

Man City had beaten the Reds on penalties during the Capital One Cup final on Sunday afternoon at Wembley.

But Liverpool exacted a form of revenge in the Premier League, with Milner scoring – and impressing several onlookers.

Shearer told Match of the Day on Wednesday night: “Whatever position you put him in, he’ll do a job for you. If you had five Milners, you wouldn’t go far wrong. He’s very, very good at most things. He was one of the guys who could be relied upon in reaction to the weekend.

“I think he’ll be a big part of Klopp’s plans going forward.”

Milner was absolutely slated by many fans after Sunday’s Capital One Cup final, however. The 30-year-old was much better against Manchester City on Wednesday than he was at Wembley.

Milner had some decent spells during the League Cup showpiece but largely flattered to deceive, while his biggest problem was awful set-piece delivery after awful set-piece delivery when his whole Liverpool side were constantly relying on him to deliver from dead-ball situations.

That’s why supporters slammed the midfielder after the weekend – but will likely be far happier with him several days later.

It’s no coincidence Liverpool did better without Alberto Moreno, meanwhile…
