Divock Origi’s future to be decided during pre-season

urgen Klopp has decided that Divock Origi will be given the opportunity to earn his place in the Liverpool squad for the coming season during the club’s pre-season.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Belgian will return to Melwood on Monday following his loan spell at German side, VfL Wolfsburg.

The 23-year-old will be given opportunities to impress Klopp with Roberto Firmino missing the start of pre-season due to the World Cup.

Origi finds himself in the same position as Ryan Kent, Harry Wilson, and Ben Woodburn, who have all been the subject of serious loan interest from several clubs.

The striker had a difficult spell in Bundesliga, where he finished 16th with Wolfsburg, scoring seven goals in 36 appearances.

He scored in Die Wölfe’s crucial relegation play-off win last month against Holstein Kiel but Roberto Martinez overlooked him for Belgium’s World Cup squad.

The Echo reports, Jurgen Klopp is keen to assess the 23-year-old striker over the coming weeks before deciding whether he features in his plans for the 2018/19 campaign.

Several players will be assessed during pre-season meaning that any further loans are unlikely to be determined until later in the window.

Liverpool’s tour of Hong Kong proved fatal for Origi last year as Dominic Solanke’s form put him ahead of the Belgium international.

Despite a substandard period in Germany, Origi has been given the benefit of the doubt by his English employers.

The German side changed their manager three times last season, circumstances that hindered the Liverpool loanee.

Origi, who joined Liverpool in 2015 for £10million from Lille, was shifted out wide on several occasions last season, a position that clearly didn’t profit the youngster.
