Emre Can hoping “world-class” Philippe Coutinho stays at Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has hailed his team-mate Philippe Coutinho as “one of the best players in the world”.

Coutinho has yet to feature for Liverpool this season due to injury, while there has been much speculation about the Brazil international’s future of late after he handed in a transfer request amid interest from Barcelona.

After having two offers rejected for the midfielder, there have been widespread reports that Barcelona will return with an offer in excess of £100 million for Coutinho.

Can admitted that he would be reluctant to see the 25-year-old depart but would wish him well if such a situation occurred.

Can, according to Goal, told reporters: “I think it’s no problem for us because nobody speaks in the team about that.

“Of course, if Philippe stays with us everybody is happy – in my eyes, he’s one of the best players in the world.

“But if he goes, if he wants to go then everyone will wish him the best and we have to go again.”
