Another quality dribbler in a team containing Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho, Ibe has impressed many this term. He started the season on loan at Championship club Derby before being recalled by the Reds back in January, and he has since broken into their first-team following some excellent performances.

However, the 19-year-old has yet to sign a new long-term deal at the club, much like team-mate Sterling, and Gerrard admits that it’s challenging for Liverpool to convince players that Anfield is the best place for their development in the game.

Speaking of their situation, Gerrard said: “The club are trying. The staff at the academy are working so hard, I am down there now doing my coaching badges, and they want it more than anyone to keep producing local players. The next Carragher, Fowler, Gerrard, Owen.

“They are trying their best but it’s difficult. But I am sure if everyone is patient it will not be too long before another star pops up. In Jordon Ibe now, there is huge potential there with the right coaching and advice. If he wants it, there could be another superstar around the corner.”
