Is Emre Can a bigger loss than Jordan Henderson?

Emre Can is the latest Liverpool injury, leaving the red’s midfield significantly weaker. He joins captain Jordan Henderson on the sidelines, but who will be the bigger loss for the Liverpool side?

Jordan Henderson is the Liverpool captain, and can change games in a heartbeat. He’s struggled this season, being held back by his previous injuries, and was just finding his form when he took another blow. His passing allowed the Liverpool team to press on forward, and the side had picked up more points with him than without him – crediting his importance to the side.

Emre Can however has been a key figure under Jurgen Klopp, gaining the backing of the fans and becoming one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers. He defends well and never backs out of a tackle, making him a very important asset when it comes to protecting our shaky back-four.

Both players contribute defensively, but I’d say Henderson has more awareness and intelligence, whereas Can can appear reckless and impulsive. Both are great for covering the back four, just in their own ways.

Can and Henderson both like to get involved with the attacking play, and neither shy’s away from a shot when the chance arises. When fully fit, Henderson contributed the odd goal and it was brilliant, but Can has looked more of a threat this season with his clever passes.

There’s no denying that these two players are our first choice holding mid-fielders, but I personally feel that Emre Can will be a bigger loss in the Liverpool side. We need his impacting tackles and passionate, tireless play, and without him we lack that fearful spine.

Henderson is brilliant, just this season his injuries have made him slightly less effective and reliable, hence why I believe Can is a bigger loss given his current form.
