John Arne Riise reacts to Dejan Lovren’s display

John Arne Riise urged Jurgen Klopp to find a replacement for Dejan Lovren after Liverpool booked their place in the Champions League group stage thanks to a 4-2 win against Hoffenheim.

The Reds welcomed the Bundesliga outfit to Anfield after the Merseyside outfit were 2-1 winners against Hoffenheim in Germany in the first leg of their playoff clash.

Liverpool wasted no time exerting their authority in front of the Anfield crowd after Emre Can’s deflected finish made it 3-1 on aggregate.

Mohamed Salah extended Liverpool’s lead with a close-range finish before the Germany midfielder scored his second of the night to put the hosts in a commanding position.

However, Lovren’s poor pass allowed Hoffenheim forward Mark Uth to put a slight doubt in the back of the Liverpool players’ minds before Roberto Firmino’s second-half finish.

Germany forward Sandro Wagner made it 4-2 on the night with 12 minutes to go but the Reds progressed to the next phase.

The Croatia defender was also guilty of conceding a first-half penalty in Germany last week to raise further questions about his ability.

Former Liverpool defender Riise urged Klopp to consider replacing Lovren, adding that the former Southampton defender makes too many defensive errors.

Riise wrote on his Twitter page: “Surely we have or there is better CB then Lovren? He makes too many mistakes. He said he wanted to show he is one of the best in PL?? Well..

“I think Lovren need more competition or more pressure to get to his best. Look at Moreno, Stepped up and proves he got it🏻”

Lovren moved to Liverpool in a £20m deal from Southampton in the 2014 summer transfer window.

Liverpool will host Arsenal in their next Premier League fixture at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
