Liverpool 1-2 Wolves

The Reds were dumped out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night after a 1-0 loss to Southampton following Shane Long’s winner in the second leg of the semi-final clash at Anfield.

It left Klopp desperate for a much-needed win in the FA Cup to boost morale ahead of the visit of Premier League leaders Chelsea in their next top-flight fixture at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Liverpool made a disastrous start after Paul Lambert’s Wolves side scored inside the opening minute through Richard Stearman before Austria international Andreas Weimann doubled the visitors’ lead four minutes before half-time.

Klopp started most of his second string for the visit of the Championship side, although Brazil international Roberto Firmino and Belgium striker Divock Origi were named his XI.

With Liverpool trailing 2-0, Klopp was forced to bring on Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Emre Can in search of a way back into the game and Origi halved the deficit with five minutes remaining.
