Borussia Dortmund marketing director Carsten Cramer has claimed that Jurgen Klopp, when he was still in charge of the Bundesliga club, wanted to sign Christian Benteke. The Belgian international is now playing at Liverpool under Klopp, but recent reports have suggested that Klopp wants to offload him in the summer
“When Jurgen was in Dortmund, we were thinking about signing him [Benteke],” Cramer told the Mirror.
“But he was so expensive, so we couldn’t realise it. We were in negotiations but the transfer fee was above £20million, which was not possible for us.
“I know Jurgen’s opinion and was kind of convinced about him.
“Seeing him playing now for Liverpool… well, most of the time he’s not playing.”
