Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard announces “I Believe”

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has praised his former side after Jurgen Klopp’s men knocked out Manchester City 5-1 on aggregate in the Champions League.

City boss Pep Guardiola fielded a very attacking side in a bid to turn the tie around, and its seemed it was possible after Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring in just the second minute.

The Reds were camped inside their half for the first half and were limited to just one shot on target, as City pilled on the pressure and dominated Klopp’s side.

However, like on so many occasions this year, Mohamad Salah and Roberto Firmino both stepped up to give Liverpool a 2-1 victory and end the Manchester clubs hopes of Champions League glory this season.

And Gerrard now believes the Reds can win the Champions League, with no club left in the competition excited about the prospect of playing Liverpool.

He was quoted on the Daily Star: “Unbelievable.

“There’s a feeling at the moment being amongst the Liverpool supporters, they’re very confident.

“They believe in this manager (Jurgen Klopp) and they believe the team is growing and they believe they’ve got a chance of going all the way.

“Yes (I believe). I think Barcelona going out tonight as well should give them a bit of confidence.

“But I think over the two legs, beating a top side like City, they should be on a big wave now.

“A wave of confidence.”

Liverpool FC haven’t won the Champions League title since 2005 when Gerrard helped to inspire the Reds to European glory against Italian giants AC Milan.
