Liverpool beat Middlesbrough 3-0 at the Riverside Stadium with two goals from Adam Lallana and a strike from Divock Origi doing the damage in a canter for Jurgen Klopp‘s side.
Despite Middlesbrough starting brightly, Liverpool rarely looked threatened after going ahead.
The win pushes Liverpool on to 34 points for the season, while Boro stay on 15.
Fabio had a chance for Boro but hit his shot straight at Simon Mignolet, who had come in to replace the under-fire Lorus Karius.
Mignolet then saved down low from Ben Gibson‘s header, with the home side impressing early on. However, Liverpool went ahead with their first real chance of the game as Nathaniel Clyne‘s cross from the right found Lallana and he headed home. 1-0 to the Reds.
In the second half Liverpool came flying out of the traps with Sadio Mane twice going close and then crossing for Roberto Firmino who sent a header wide.
Soon after Liverpool did go 2-0 up as Origi scored for a fifth-straight game to all but end the contest as the Belgian finished off Lallana’s cross following a flowing move.
Late on Liverpool put some more gloss on the scoreline with another beautiful move involving Mane and Origi saw Lallana pop up to score his second and Liverpool’s third of the game. 3-0. Game over.
The rest of the game played out as expected as Liverpool sealed a comfortable away win and a vital clean sheet to build confidence.
