Murphy defends Moreno performance.

Moreno was facing his former side for the first time since his switch to Anfield in the Summer of 2014 and he had a night to forget.

But Murphy has backed the Spaniard and said that he didn’t play as big a role in the loss as some have claimed.

“We know Moreno isn’t the best defensively, but he’s a young player playing against his old team. It was a difficult night for him.” he told Talksport.

“He got nutmegged, he had a bad header and he got done, but those two small mistakes wasn’t the reason Liverpool lost, let’s make that perfectly clear.

“I think it’s unfair for fans to start saying ‘he’s useless’ add ‘he’s cost us the game’ – No he didn’t!

“He had a small impact on the result, of course he did, and he’s got to work on his defending, but too many other players didn’t stand up to be counted.”

“Only three or four players, max, played to about 7/10 of their potential. Daniel Sturridge scored a wonderful goal, Simon Mignolet made some top saves and Kolo Toure was immense. I thought Emre Can did alright, but too many underperformed.” he finished.
