Rush: Klopp’s side must learn to keep clean sheets

Liverpool legend Ian Rush says that Jurgen Klopp’s side must learn to keep clean sheets if they want to challenge for trophies this season.

Klopp has assembled one of the best-attacking sides in the country, but his side has looked suspect on the defensive front this season. Rush feels that it’s time for the German manager to start concentrating on the defensive side now.

“We have to learn to keep clean sheets,” said Rush, speaking at the launch event for a new learning place for youngsters at Anfield.

“At the end of the day, attacking wise, we have 20, 40 minute spells where we’re absolutely unbelievable – we can beat anyone in the world.

“It’s not for the lack of chances but we’re not putting them all away. When you’re playing the top teams, if you’re not careful you get found out.

“We’ve got to start learning how to keep a clean sheet because we’re not going to score every game. Yeah we’ve got great attacking flair but we’re not going to score every game.

“We have to learn to stop it at the back and if we can do that I think we will be alright.”
