Seven Players On Released List

No major surprises amongst the players Liverpool have decided to let go…

In line with the rest of the Premier League, Liverpool have today confirmed the players who will be leaving Anfield this summer upon the expiry of their current contracts.

The seven-man list contains veteran goalkeeper Alex Manninger who joined the club last summer as a backup to main shot-stoppers Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius on a one-year deal.

The former Arsenal man, 40, failed to make a competitive appearance during his time at the Reds, which is something he has in common with the other six names on the list.

They are Academy members Tom Brewitt, 20, Jake Brimmer, 19, Jack Dunn, 22, Madger Gomes, 20, Kane Lewis, 19, and Adam Phillips, 19.

Like Manninger, the impending departures of Brewitt and Phillips were widely known, while the exits of Brimmer, Dunn, Gomes and Lewis have come as no real surprise.

Phillips is arguably the most high-profile of the youngsters let go having once been lauded as a possible successor to Steven Gerrard due to his range of passing. Sadly the midfielder’s progress has been stunted by two stress fractures of the back.

While the other six players must now assess their options, Tranmere Rovers have already confirmed the capture of Dunn.

The forward spent part of last season on-loan at Prenton Park following a similar spell at Morecombe.
