These two Liverpool teammates were the best I played with

Steven Gerrard has revealed that his former Liverpool teammates Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres “shocked” him with how good they were.

Reds legend Gerrard played with the attacking duo on two separate occasions, at first with Spaniard Torres and then Urugyian Suarez.

Prior to their transfers away from Anfield, the two strikers enjoyed successful spells on Merseyside.

Gerrard was a part of their goalscoring success as he explained why the duo were his favourites to play alongside during his time at Anfield.

In terms of who shocked me about how good they were, Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez would be my two favourites,” Gerrard told the Liverpool Echo.“They would often have moments where you’d think ‘wow, has he really just done that?’”

Athletico Madrid striker Torres made 142 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 81 goals and supplying 20 assists.

In January 2011, the World Cup and European Cup winner made an unpopular move to Chelsea for a fee of £50 million.

Torres struggled during his time at Stamford Bridge, scoring 45 goals in 172 games and now plies his trade back at his hometown club of Athletico Madrid.

By contrast, Suarez scored 82 goals in 133 games for the Reds, providing 53 assists.

He scored 31 goals in 33 games during his final season at Anfield, where then Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers narrowly missed out on the Premier League title.

During the summer of 2014, the highly-rated attacker made a £75 million switch to La Liga giants Barcelona, where he has already lifted the European Cup.

Suarez has now excelled further during his time in Spain as he is now one of the most feared attackers in world football.

He has scored 99 goals in 117 games for the Spanish giants, winning La Liga on two occasions and winning the same number of Spanish cups.
