Liverpool’s forgotten man Tiago Ilori wants to stay at Anfield – even though Brendan Rodgers is considering farming him out on loan again.

Ilori, 22, has yet to make a first-team appearance for Liverpool since his £7million switch from Sporting Lisbon in 2013 and has spent the last two campaigns on loan at Granada and Bordeaux.

The Portuguese Under-21 defender made his comeback from injury in the midweek mini-derby and says he wants to fight for a first-team place at Liverpool.

“I want to play for Liverpool,” he said. “I joined Liverpool two seasons ago to play for Liverpool. That is my No 1 objective so I’m going to do everything to make that happen.

“Injury wise, I’m now 100 per cent. I chose Liverpool over a few other teams a couple of years ago and it’s always been my dream to play in the Premier League.

To be at a club like this is a dream come true – the next step is playing for it.”

Ilori’s Liverpool Under-21 boss Michael Beale claims Rodgers feels the centre-half would benefit more from playing first-team football on loan rather than a campaign with the Reds reserves.

“I think Tiago will benefit from another loan if the other option is to stay here and play Under-21s football,” said Beale.
