Speaking hours after Liverpool Football Club handed him a one year contract extension, the Ivorian told the LFC website:
“I am one of the most experienced players in the squad and I have to play that role because we have so many young players. For me, it’s important that I try to help those young players when they need it. I am happy to do that, I like to take on that responsibility, and I enjoy that role.
“The manager has known me for a long time and we’ve been speaking very well together. He knows what I can do on and off the pitch.
“I have won some things in my career, but now I want to help the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Jordan Henderson and the other young players win something because they are great, great players.
Toure also stressed the thought process behind him accepting Liverpool’s offer of a new contract.
“It was my first choice [to sign a new deal with Liverpool], but I took some time to think – I thought about my family, my life and everything because I’ve been in England for a long time.
“But leaving England would be really difficult because my family and wife are here. My kids are really happy, they go to school here and love the country, so I decided it wasn’t right. When you play in the Premier League, it is really special to play every week against some of the best teams in the world. It’s a great thing for me to be here.
“I am in love with the club, with the fans and everybody connected with the club. Liverpool Football Club is a great club and I know all about what it has achieved in the past. As a player, I want to try to win something for the club.
“That’s why it was very important that I stayed here – I enjoy every second I have at this club.”
Liverpool also handed a longer term deal to Andre Wisdom who spent last season on loan at West Brom.
Ειμαι ενας απο τους πιο έμπειρους παικτες στην ομαδα και δεν εχω παιξει αυτον τον ρόλο , επειδη εχουμε πολους νέους παικτες. Για εμενα ειναι σημαντικο οτι προσπαθώ να βοηθήσω τους νέους παικτες οταν χρειάζεται. Ειμαι στην ευχάριστη θεση να το κανω , θα το εκμεταλλευτώ και μου αρέσει αυτος ο ρόλος.
Ο προπονητής μου ξέρει εδω και πολυ καιρο που εχουμε μιλησει ξέρει τι μπορω να κανω μεσα και εκτος γηπέδου.
Εχω κερδίσει κάποια πράγματα στην καριερα μου , αλλα τωρα θελω να βοηθήσω τους ομοίους του Κουτινιο και του Χέντερσον και τους άλλους νεαρούς παικτες να κερδίσουν κατι , επειδη ειναι μεγαλη , μεγαλη παικτες.
Αν μπορω να βοηθήσω με τον οποιοδήποτε τροπο με την εμπειρία μου η επίτευξη μου θα ειναι τεράστια για εμενα την επομενη σεζον.
Ηταν πρωτη επιλογή μου να υπογράψω το νεο συμβολαιο επειδη η οικογενεια μου και η γυναικα μου ειναι εδω. Τα παιδια μου ειναι πολυ χαρούμενα που πηγαίνουν σχολειο εδω και αγαπούν την χώρα, γι’αυτο αποφάσισα οτι δεν ειναι σωστό. Οταν παίζεις στην Πρεμιερ Λιγκ ειναι πραγματικα ξεχωριστό και να παίζεις καθε εβδομάδα σε μια απο τις καλύτερες ομαδες στον κοσμο.
Ειμαι ερωτευμένος με τον σύλλογο , με τους οπαδούς και ολοι συνδέονται με τον σύλλογο. Η Λιβερπουλ ειναι ενα μεγαλο κλαμπ και ξέρω τα παντα , για οτι κανει στο παρελθόν. Ως παικτης θελω να κερδίσω κατι για τον σύλλογο.
Γι’αυτο ειναι πολυ σημαντικο το γεγονός για εμενα. Απολαμβάνω το καθε λεπτό που εχω σε αυτο το κλαμπ.”
