Why Liverpool switched back to white goal nets

The modern game of football has become more and more focused on marginal gains than ever – and Liverpool’s official website has revealed just how much Jurgen Klopp is willing to micromanage in order to help get the best out of his players. Some fans noticed that the goal nets at Anfield had changed from red to white, for the first time in four years.

It’s now been revealed that the change was at the request of Klopp after a training session on Thursday, in the belief that the white netting would stand out more against the masses of fans wearing red Liverpool shirts behind the goal – helping his players find the target more easily at a glance.

Did it work? has this micromanagement gone mad? Hard to tell either way, but attention to detail is rarely a negative, and that first home game of the season did see the Reds smash four goals past the reigning champions in a thrilling 4-1 win.
