Xabi Alonso thinks Gerrard will make great Liverpool manager

Xabi Alonso has heaped praise on his former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, suggesting he could go on to become a great manager, too.

The mercurial Spaniard was speaking at an awards do to congratulate Gerrard on his induction into the England Football Hall of Fame.

The greatest skipper in Liverpool’s history was being recognised for everything he’s done for our beautiful game since the turn of the century, but is now pursuing a career in management and currently works as the LFC U18 coach.

“I’m following the early steps of his career closely and for sure he has all the attributes to become a big manager and a Liverpool manager one day,” Alonso said.

“For sure, to have someone with his knowledge (will help Liverpool’s youngsters). But it’s different, you can be a great player but being a manager is a different task.

“For sure, he’s really focused and if he’s able to deliver that message he will be a good one.”
