Liverpool target Jorginho is attracting interest from the Premier League according to the player’s agent, but any proposed move away from Napoli will have to wait until the end of the season.
The 26-year-old midfielder, who averages more passes per game than any Serie A player this season (96.6), has been in formidable form for Napoli, with the club currently locked in a battle for the Serie A title with perennial winners Juventus.
Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos has made no secret of interest for his client from abroad, admitting last month that the 26-year-old could depart the Italian outfit this summer, with the Partenopei exploring the option to cash in on the deep-lying midfielder.
“He wants to finish the season in the best way possible, the discussion on a renewal we will let slide until the end of the season, in the interest of the player and the club,” he told reporters, according to Football Italia.
Asked if there was interest from English clubs, Santos added: “Yes, he’s in the national team and there aren’t many players who play like him. Logically, clubs are interested in him, but as yet there have been no official offers.”
Despite confirmed interest from the Premier League, Santos remains adamant Jorginho is devoted to Napoli, with any decision on the player’s future to be made at the end of the season.
He added: “Jorginho still has a contract with Napoli, if the Azzurri receive any good offers we’ll be informed.
“If someone likes him they must talk to the club. If the offer works for Napoli, then we’ll discuss it.”
With Emre Can’s future at Anfield in doubt, Jorginho could be the ideal replacement for Jurgen Klopp should the German midfielder depart Merseyside this summer.
Napoli host Genoa at the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday, by which time they could find themselves seven points behind league leaders Juventus.
