Virgil van Dijk is fit to face Crystal Palace on Saturday but Liverpool are monitoring the availability of several other players after the international break.
Van Dijk missed the second game of the Netherlands’ Euro 2020 qualifying double-header but, barring anything unexpected overnight, can play at Selhurst Park.
But the Reds must check on the fitness of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Joel Matip, confirmed Jürgen Klopp at his pre-match press conference.
The manager also explained why the players’ exertions for their countries will have an influence on his selection for the clash with Palace.
“Virgil is 100 per cent available,” said Klopp.
“But it’s the time of the year when players get out of the squad overnight, unfortunately, with some other things – getting sick or ill or whatever.
“From the others, I cannot say 100 per cent, I don’t know 100 per cent. Today [Friday] is a very important session to judge that, especially with the players who came back late.
“Fabinho and Bobby and Ali played on Tuesday, Gini Wijnaldum played on Tuesday, so we have these players where we really need to have a look at how they react and what makes sense for them or not.
“It’s always how it is with the first game after the international [break], we have to wait until the last second pretty much to make the decision.”
Xherdan Shaqiri took a positive step in his return from a calf injury by participating in training this week, though Klopp expects the Switzerland international to need time to find his rhythm again.
“There is no reason to rush it now but it’s nice to have him back,” said the boss.
“We saw a lot of really nice things in training this week, it was really good. But it is intense for him in the moment, he needs to get used to the intensity again and everything will be fine.”
Nathaniel Clyne remains a long-term absentee for Liverpool.
Palace, meanwhile, have been boosted by the availability of Wilfried Zaha and Joel Ward, with a fully-fit squad to choose from for the visit of the Premier League leaders.
“Wilf’s fine,” reported Eagles manager Roy Hodgson on Friday. “The injury that forced him out of the Ivory Coast game is fine and he should be in the squad tomorrow.
“We have no injuries and a full squad to choose from, which is incredible. To have every player to choose from is fantastic.”
Former Reds defender Mamadou Sakho is in contention to face his old club, though Hodgson said: “It’s an area of the field where we have great options and the two that have been playing there have done well. He might have to be a little bit patient before he comes in.”
