Gary Mac talks about ICC and claims he found pre-seasons “bland”

Liverpool legend Gary McAllister, who is now an ambassador for the club, has been talking to the official Liverpool FC site about our recently unveiled pre-season plans.

We will face fierce rivals Chelsea on July 27th at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, AC Milan at the Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco, and Barcelona at an as-yet unconfirmed location.

McAllister says he used to hate pre-seasons, and that the players will find playing against such a high-calibre of opposition much more exciting.

“The big thing for Jürgen is the quality of the competition he’s got, because the line-up in this competition is fierce, [with] obviously some of the best clubs in the world,” he said.

“As an ex-player, I always found pre-season games could be a little bland and you’re always looking to the first game of the season, but this level of game and competition in pre-season is going to be a fantastic experience for the players. I’m sure they’ll love it.”

He also believes the whole squad will be able to look forward to a fantastic reception, similar to the only they received last time they played in the ICC in 2014.

“Everywhere Liverpool go, I’m always amazed by the support Liverpool have.

“Over the years of playing against Liverpool, I always thought I knew loads about Liverpool Football Club, I thought I knew everything, but it’s not until you come to these places and these countries and see how massive the club is.

“The support will be equally as huge on the west coast as it is on the east coast.”

Are you looking forward to the tournament, or would you rather we played a more localised pre-season, with a couple of big European names coming to Anfield and a tour of Switzerland – just like Rafa used to do
