John Arne Riise – Christian Benteke may prove everyone at Liverpool wrong

Benteke has been continuously linked with a move away from Anfield after making a big money switch to the club last summer from Aston Villa.

The Belgian international is clearly not one of Jurgen Klopp’s preferred forwards at the club but the German manager did warn potential suitors that they wouldn’t get Benteke on the cheap.

The forward netted nine times in the Premier League last season and is a proven finisher, and former Reds’ left-back Riise believes that the 25-year-old could still come good for the Anfield outfit, should no side pay the right fee for him.

However, Riise, who last played for Norwegian side Aalesund, feels that it would also do Benteke good to get a transfer and be the first-choice attacker at another side.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Riise said: “He came with a big price tag last year and that is always difficult to handle.

“If nobody offers that sort of money again, he may well stay at Liverpool and prove everybody wrong but I think it will be good for him to go to a club where he can play regularly.”
