Klopp drops sly joke about Man United’s European struggles

Jurgen Klopp has had enough of questions about whether our lack of European participation is benefiting Liverpool’s Premier League campaign!

Many pundits and fans of opposition teams alike have chosen to simply explain our early season achievement by stating we don’t have to play midweek fixtures – ignoring a number of brilliant performances in the process.

But for Klopp, he’d rather be in Europe, which we would have been if we’d won the Europa League Final in May last term.

He also wonders why Chelsea’s Antonio Conte, also not in Europe, isn’t asked the question so regularly – and predicts Jose Mourinho will have the same ‘luxury’ after January!

“What is an advantage? It’s only our situation, nothing else,” Klopp told Sky Sports in today’s pre-match press-conference ahead of Sunday’s Watford tie.

“When I was in Europe, I never thought ‘this is too much’. We just have to show that we use the extra time for training.

“Do you ask Antonio Conte about this every week? Maybe Man United will have it from January. Maybe ask them. Maybe it’s not a positive thing [losing] and then from January, it’s very positive not being in Europe any more.”

United of course lost to Fenerbahce in the Europa League last night, despite fielding a side close to full-strength – which leaves them sat third in their group behind the Turks and Feyenoord.

Unless they up their game, they’ll be out of the competition, but by the sounds of it and the looks of their performance – it’s not one they want to be in anyway. This is foolish, as it’s already looking their best chance of Champions League qualification!
