Liverpool 1 – 1 Everton

Virgil van Dijk netted Liverpool‘s crucial winner in tonight’s FA Cup third-round tie against Everton, on what was his debut for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool made the Dutchman the most expensive defender in world football when they paid Southampton £75 million for his services earlier this month.

And he’s already paying his fee back, only not with defensive clearances but with match-winning goals instead.

As the game approached the dying-minutes at Anfield and with the score level at 1-1 following goals from James Milner and Gylfi Sigurdsson, Liverpool won a corner kick.

Jordan Pickford won’t be happy with his half-hearted leap toward Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross, nor will his manager Sam Allardyce.

Not than van Dijk was too bothered, as he nodded the ball past the helpless Toffees keeper to secure his side’s place in the next round.

As far as debuts go, I think we can all agree, that will go down as a very special one!
