Liverpool boss Klopp questions Woodburn Wales call

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has questioned Ben Woodburn’s senior Wales call.

The 17-year-old attacker, who has only made seven first-team appearances for the Reds, is in line to make his full international debut in the World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin next Friday.

“Ben is happy about it so I am happy about it,” Klopp said.

“Do I think it should be now? I would say probably not.

“But is it a problem? No, it’s okay. We can’t stop the stories. Ben is a wonderful kid and can deal with it 100%. He understands it all and know what he has to learn.

“I can understand why they thought (to pick him). I heard the Wales manager say Ben is one of the best 23 players in Wales so he needs to be there.

“Now we have two managers that have to make sure that he can develop in the right way. Usually it was more my responsibility so now we can share it a little bit.”
