Liverpool make an approach for Jasper Cillessen

Liverpool have made an approach to the agent of Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, according to Mundo Deportivo, as translated by Sport Witness.

The Reds are in for a new goalkeeper as it seems inevitable that Simon Mignolet will depart the club after falling out of favour with Jurgen Klopp. There is also the issue surrounding Loris Karius after his poor performance in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev.

Liverpool have been linked to some big names in the goalkeeping department in the likes of Alisson and Jan Oblak, but it appears those two are out of Klopp’s reach due to the sum they would demand in terms of a transfer fee.

Cillessen on the other hand wouldn’t cost a premium, and he reportedly wants to be playing football rather than sitting on the bench behind Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Cillessen reportedly has a buyout clause of €60m in his contract with Barcelona, but a deal could be struck for much less for any interested clubs.

Liverpool’s transfer activity has been fairly quiet due to the World Cup, but with the group stage of the tournament coming to a conclusion, expect to see progress in the market for the Reds sooner rather than later.
