Liverpool V Southampton

Following their 4-1 thumping at Tottenham last month, the Reds have responded with back-to-back league wins over Huddersfield and West Ham – scoring seven and conceding just one goal.

The return to form is coinciding with some good news on the injury front for Jurgen Klopp, who should have both Adam Lallana and Phillippe Coutinho back in the squad after injury. Coutinho has recovered from a thigh injury, which kept him out of the last two Liverpool games, while Lallana could make his first appearance of the season after returning to full fitness following a long-term thigh issue.

Klopp, who will make a late fitness decision on Sadio Mane, has also confirmed that Jordan Henderson is available after withdrawing from the England squad.

The visitors are unbeaten on their last three visits to Anfield, head to Merseyside having lost just one of their four league away games this term. Mario Lemina is set to be Saints’ only absentee with the former Juventus midfielder remains sidelined with an ankle injury, which has kept him out of the last two matches.

Mauricio Pellegrino has suggested that Virgil van Dijk will start against the side that failed to sign him in the summer, insisting the Dutchman is fully focused on the task in hand.
