Pique was speaking at a special PokerStars European Poker Tour event at Barcelona and was quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying:
“I think Jurgen is doing a great job at Liverpool.
“Because the style of play is the opposite of Guardiola.”
“They really like to counter-attack and have really quick players up front and score goals with (Mohamed) Salah, (Roberto) Firmino and (Sadio) Mane.”
The Spaniard believed that the Premier League title race would be exciting though he still named Manchester City as the slight favourites to keep their title.
“We will see, it will be challenging for Man City, because Liverpool have a great team and I think it will be quite exciting.
“I think City are a little bit favourites, but you never know. (In the) Premier League, anything can happen.”
Liverpool reached the Champions League final last season and beat Manchester City over two legs in the quarter-finals.
The Reds also handed a league defeat to City last season and have started the season brightly with three wins from three.
Defeating City for the Premier League would be quite an achievement, given how dominant Pep Guardiola’s men were in the previous campaign.
But with a number of quality signings and on the back of a quality season last time around, we could see a close title race between the Reds and the Cityzens.
