Steven Gerrard reveals who is the more selfish

Cristiano Ronaldo kept up his fine form in the 2018 World Cup helping Portugal win their second match on the trot against Morocco.

Ronaldo scored the only goal of the match and eventually, his side hung on to pick up all three points and firmly plant one foot into the knockout stages.

While the Portuguese has been in fine goalscoring form, Lionel Messi, on the other hand, has had a tough start to the tournament.

Messi missed a penalty during Argentina’s 1-1 draw against Iceland and there’s no doubt that the player will be under immense pressure when Argentina take on Croatia in their second Group D game on Thursday.

And in this never-ending debate of Ronaldo vs Messi, former Liverpool midfielder and current Rangers FC coach Steven Gerrard has revealed who he thinks is the better player.

Speaking on Robbie Savage’s podcast, Gerrard said: “They’re very different for me,

“I think they’re both operating on a different planet to every footballer that’s ever lived, probably beside your Peles and your Maradonas.

“But Messi for me is more of a team player.

“If he’s in on goal he’ll look for a pass as well as obviously posting really, really good numbers individually as well.

“Ronaldo for me is more individual. He’s hungry for goals, he’s a little bit more selfish, whether that be in a good way or a bad way and obviously the profile of the players is very different in terms of size.

“I think they’re different in many ways but what I will say to them, and the biggest compliment I can give them, is they’re operating on a different planet than any other footballer out there at the moment.”

Then Robbie Savage went on to ask the Rangers boss about who he thinks is the better player.

“I go, Messi,” the Rangers boss added.

“I’m not selfish, I’m a team player.”

Ronaldo is doing his best in Russia to convince Messi’s fans to switch allegiances.
