Tony Pulis offers thoughts on Liverpool’s title chances

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis believes that Liverpool have got a great chance of winning the Premier League title this year, citing the absence of Europe as a big help, the club’s official website report.

The Reds failed to quality for Europe this season after finishing eighth in the Premier League table last term and losing both the EFL Cup and Europa League final to Manchester City and Sevilla respectively.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp strengthened in the summer, and the Merseyside club have in turn performed much better already this season as they currently sit in fourth spot in the Premier League table.

Speaking ahead of his side’s clash at Anfield this weekend, Pulis feels that Liverpool have improved from last season and their lack of European games makes them strong contenders for the title.

“They’ve got a great chance this year. They’re not involved in Europe so they’ve got a clear run at it. Quite a few of the other clubs are going to be bogged down with European games,” he told wba.co.uk.

“The last time Liverpool weren’t in Europe and had a squad as strong as this Brendan (Rodgers) came very, very close. And I expect Liverpool again to be one of those teams to be very close.”

With Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur also showing some signs of weakness this term, Liverpool can certainly consider themselves as contenders.

Klopp’s men have already played three of the current top five away from home, and their return of seven points suggests they have what it takes to be there or thereabouts come next May.

Liverpool face a West Brom side who are unbeaten in their last four matches, and the visitors head to Anfield boasting a pretty decent recent record against the Merseyside club.
