he 23-year-old, who made 21 senior appearances for Liverpool, has no regrets about quitting Anfield. He’s enjoying a fine season in Italy with five goals and six assists so far this term.
“At Liverpool there was no going forward and I needed an opportunity,” Suso told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“That’s why I chose Milan, who for me are a top European club. It was hard at first, but then I was given an opportunity thanks to (Vincenzo) Montella.”
Suso has earned the trust of Milan boss Montella going into Friday’s Italian Super Cup clash with Juventus in Qatar.
Club president Silvio Berlusconi has spoken about Suso’s “great class” and compared him to Milan legend Roberto Donadoni. Only two players in Serie A can better his tally of half a dozen assists this season.
“He has enormous potential, but needs to grow in his consistency and also self-confidence,” Montella said.
“He is a little shy and ought to take more risks in the final third. He has to be more incisive because he has the quality to do that.”
